Overview

In today's environment, if you are standing still, you are falling behind.  Making the right decisions at the right time is critical.  Following through on these decisions is challenging. 

In a survey of a broad section of CEOs, the Malcolm Baldrige Foundation learned that CEOs believed that deploying strategy is three times more difficult than developing strategy.  The executive team's strategic planningn process must address both the development of your key strategic imperatives and the successful execution of these strategies.  However, the process of developing the strategic plan seems onerous to many and of little value to others.  In our experience we have found that the fault lies not in the concept of Strategic Planning but rather in the process of developing the plan itself.   Let us take you through a process of developing a strategic plan that will bring to life your vision and strategic imperatives.

Session Focus

The process starts by identifying your organization's vision and mission.  This will be the basis for developing your future direction as well as identifying the key influences for how you operate and the challenges you are currently facing.  By gaining clarity about your organization's operating environment and key relationships with customers, suppliers, partners and stakeholders, you will then be able to describe your organization's competitive environment and ensure that your key strategic imperatives will be able to maintain your benchmarked position.

Executives, management and other leaders who are responsible for the development of strategic and operational planning for their organization and/or department.

 

What You Will Learn

  • Develop a compelling vision and mission for your organization and/or department.
  • Implement the entire process of strategic planning.
  • Benchmark against other organizations in order to identify best practices.
  • Collect customer feedback to incorproate into the development of the strategies.
  • Identify staff involvement in the process of creating the key strategies.
  • Determine the short and longer-term strategies for your organization and/or department..
  • Identify the risks that might impact success.
  • Develop the objectives so that they overcome any identified risks.
  • Create the objectives required to ensure that each strategic imperative is reached in the short term.
  • Calculate how success will be measured.
  • Develop the operational effectiveness plan to ensure that everyone knows: what they have to do, how and when to do it so as to successfully implement the short term strategic plan.
